SCOTT CAIN
Who is Scott Cain?
I don’t know anything about him.
Wait—what did you just say? Who is Scott Cain? Well, let me tell you, my friend.
We asked people from all over the world and…
On a busy street in Paris, a sandy-blond woman shrugged: “De quoi diable parles-tu?”
(Translation: What on earth are you talking about?)
On a noisy corner in Delhi, a smiling mustached man replied:
“माफ़ कीजिएगा सर, पर उस बीयर बनाने वाले के बारे में बात करना ख़तरे से खाली नहीं है।”
(Translation: Forgive me sir, but talking about that beer maker is not free from danger.)
In a tavern on the south side of Chicago, a pot-bellied man grumbled:
“What’s dis Scott Cain garbage? Sounds like some guy from over by da north side.”
(Translation: Hey pretty lady, can I buy you a drink?)
At a North Side café, a young woman in a University of Illinois sweatshirt gasped:
“Oh indeed, I thought we were rid of him?
I heard he moved away and was masquerading as a carpenter in some Michigan someplace.”
(Translation: EWWW NO!)
And finally, at the helm of a sailboat on Northport Bay, a handsome skipper in a Cheese Shanty tee shirt and Mount Gay Rum cap declared:
“You fool—everyone knows Scott Cain runs his own kangaroo court.”
(Translation, the real one): He prefers you not label him a photographer. Instead, imagine him as an industrial designer or licensed residential builder.
Some know him for decorating Christmas trees. And when he’s not dreaming of sailing to Australia, he snaps photos to share.

Laura Miller
I am a self-taught artist with a flair for color. I am a member of Oliver Art Center and Northport Art Association. I have been represented in my work by OAC, NAA and Glen Arbor Arts Center. The honor of winning the Tree City USA poster contest Frankfort for 2020, first place in 2D Art at OAC in the Juried Exhibition 2022, and First place Plein Air 2024 at OAC has been a delight and humbling experience. I continue to broaden my skills with any instruction given and with online class/workshops.
I see the world in full color. So much color, metaphorically. I can’t remember a time that art wasn’t a part of me. I grew up drawing, doodling, coloring, painting and creating things any chance I got. I would watch Bob Ross and buy every step by step painting book I could find in our little town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I was teaching myself at every opportunity.
I continue to learn and welcome any instruction.
Recently, I have begun to share my experience in a workshop/class setting. I enjoy teaching and encouraging people in my love for acrylic.
I paint to feed my soul. I hope it feeds yours, also.

Working with clay was my first love and still is today. I have my own studio and kilns.
Since there were kilns, it was fun to do pots for ikebana, copper enameling and to do silver work!
Then I became interested in weaving so bought fleece from farmers and learned to card and spin yarn. There were fiber guilds, where study groups and shows helped me learn even more, including how to gather plants for natural dyeing. As working on a large loom became difficult, I found new joy in smaller looms, such as rigid heddle and tapestry looms.
Since I worked at a library and there were books to tell you how to do handmake art books. making paper and books was the next adventure.
After that it was making fabric wall quilts.
Life is a fun adventure and guess that is why I am a Multi-Media artist.
