This hands-on, week-long experience invites young artists ages 12–17 to discover the joy of working with clay while learning the fundamentals of wheel throwing in a supportive and inspiring studio environment.

Throughout the workshop, students will be guided step-by-step through essential ceramic techniques including centering, shaping on the wheel, trimming, and glazing. Alongside building technical skills, participants will be encouraged to express their creativity, grow their confidence, and develop their own artistic voice. Whether students are brand new to ceramics or already enjoy working with clay, all skill levels are welcome.

With small class sizes limited to just six participants, the workshop offers personalized instruction and plenty of time for individual exploration. The welcoming atmosphere allows teens to relax, have fun, and connect with others who share a passion for making art.

All materials and supplies are included, so students can focus on creating and experimenting without needing to bring anything but their enthusiasm.

Lani has 33 years of wheel-throwing experience and 26 years of pottery instruction for both individuals and groups, wheel-throwing & hand-building, teens and adults. She has served as art teacher at Leland Public Schools for the last 23 years. Recently, she completed the On Center wheel-throwing program at La Meridiana International Pottery School. “My focus in making pottery is to bring simple beauty to everyday tableware. As a teacher, I enjoy getting to know my students and passing down the best practices of making pottery.”
