Animal Sculpture and Textures in Nature with Honey Nilson

from $40.12

August 15, 9am-12pm, Animal Sculpture and Textures in Nature

Join ceramic artist Honey Nilson for a hands-on workshop exploring the connection between nature and clay through animal sculpture and texture creation.

Clay is grounded in the source of nature and weaves its way into our lives. Flesh and bone, clay and dirt—we are all made of the same stuff. This workshop invites participants to discover the relationship between the natural world and what we create with our hands.

The workshop will begin with a presentation featuring both historical and contemporary ceramic artists whose work is inspired by wildlife and the natural world. Participants will study local fauna such as foxes, bats, lynx, and raccoons while learning basic principles of animal anatomy, including skeletal structure and muscle form.

Honey will demonstrate a variety of texture-making tools and techniques before guiding participants through the process of building their own animal sculpture in clay. The focus of the workshop will be on handbuilding and sculpting during the greenware stage rather than glazing.

Workshop Includes:
- Introduction to historical and contemporary animal sculpture
- Reference materials featuring local wildlife
- Basic animal anatomy for sculptors
- Demonstrations of texture-making tools and techniques
- Guided handbuilding and sculpture instruction
- 5 pounds of clay per participant

This workshop is appropriate for adults and older teens with an interest in clay, sculpture, nature, and wildlife-inspired art. Space is limited to eight participants, so early registration is encouraged.
